Today, I volunteered at NCEFT. NCEFT is a non-profit organization that provides equestrian therapy for kids and adults with disabilities. During my past volunteering sessions, I have done a variety of tasks, from cleaning helmets to sweeping floors to cleaning tack. Usually the tasks consist of barn work/chores. Today, I groomed horses. I love horses and I am always willing to spend time with them, so grooming was both fun and relaxing. While the chores I do are just typical barn work, the chores really mean a lot to NCEFT. Since NCEFT is a nonprofit, it really appreciates any volunteer work. When I first started working at NCEFT, the manager really emphasized how essential the volunteers are to NCEFT. The little things, from sweeping the barn aisles to cleaning tack, really mean a lot to NCEFT. When I volunteer, there are usually a lot of kids and adults doing therapy sessions. The kids are all so cute and they love the horses and riding so much. You can see their eyes light up with excitement when they see and get on the horses. When they accomplish a goal, such as learning how to post the trot, they feel so proud of themselves. Just from watching, you can tell how much riding means to the patients. Seeing the patients so happy and excited puts a smile on my face and makes me eager to come back and volunteer!
